In May 2010 Germany's Metal Hammer posted a full site interview/article about the band. It was originally due to be released by the fourth quarter of that year but the release was held back to 2010 because of a production problem. In June 2009 they announced that the title of their second album would be Visions of the Seeker. Rising from Apadana was released on August 29, 2008, to some positive reviews. Once Ramin Rahimi joined the band as drummer, the band was able to record their first full-length album, which was titled Rising from Apadana. Angband was originally conceived as a progressive metal/ instrumental project, but with the inclusion of singer Ashkan Yazdani they headed in a more power metal/progressive metal vein. “ Persia” then brings loads to the ears with a top notch hard and heavy, yet overtly progressive, montage of sounds.Angband was formed in 2004 in Tehran by Mahyar Dean, a classically trained musician and author who is known for writing books about the bands Death and Testament. “ Angel” sees musical approach finally match the vocal and it is all the better for it even if the song isn’t their strongest. The subdued screams and howls of the title track end up being the best on offer before an aggressive, and more fitting, vocal has a shot. Musically this is generally good but the arrangements aren’t strong enough. I’d go as far as to say it often feels like he is singing a wholly different song. The singer just hasn’t got the space to dwell on the notes that he obviously thinks he has and the two don’t fuse together that well. Some that follow offer a bit more promise but I can’t help feel the vocals are a little at odds with the music which tends to go for a sub thrash heaviness a lot of the time. I like the melancholy undertone but it is omnipresent and begins to irk. It’s too yearning for the heavy style and never really nails it. “Fight For Life” fires along with tight rhythms underpinning the riffs and it is only the vocal that isn’t quite there.

It is also just a little flabby round the edges and whilst it is clear that the musicians can play “ Seasons Of My Pain” is an uninspiring opener.īut it gets better.

Atmospheres give way to something raw and quite pedestrian from this band from Iran.
